21 <br /> Watch Dogs <br /> Page 3 <br /> Proposed Ordinance SAbiect to Change <br /> Three provisions of the proposed Unified Ordinance refer to security dogs(absent the classification of <br /> watchdog' that appears in the county's current ordinance. These provisions are from the version of the <br /> ordinance the Board reviewed on October 4,2014, and they appear below. <br /> Division 1.-GENERALLY <br /> Sec.4-37. -Definitions. <br /> Security Dog:Any dog used, kept or maintained on the premisesof itsowner or keeper for the purpose <br /> of protecting any person or property.Any such dog shall be further classified as a patrol dog or sentry <br /> dog. <br /> (a) Patrol dog:A dog that is trained or conditioned to attack or otherwise respond aggressively, but <br /> only upon command from a handler either off or on lead. <br /> (b) Sentry dog:Adog that is trained or conditioned to attack or otherwise respond aggressively <br /> without command. <br /> Sec.4-42. -Control of vicious animals;security dogs. <br /> (e) Exceptions. The provisions of this Section do not apply to: <br /> (1)Adog being used by a law enforcement officer to carry out the law enforcement officer's <br /> official duties; <br /> (2)Adog being used in a lawful hunt; <br /> (3)A dog where the injury or damage inflicted by the dog was sustained by a domestic animal <br /> while the dog wasworking as a hunting, herding or predator control dog on the property of,or <br /> under the control of, its owner or keeper, and the damage or injury was to a species or type of <br /> domestic animal appropriate to the work of the dog; or <br /> (4)Adogwhere the injury inflicted by the dog was sustained by a person who, at the time of the <br /> injury was: <br />
