Proclamation — Human Relations Month <br /> 9 The Board considered officially proclaiming the month of February as "Human Relations <br /> 10 Month" in Orange County and authorizing the Chair to sign the proclamation. <br /> 11 HRC Co-Chair Rollin Russell thanked the Board of County Commissioners for all of their <br /> 12 support, specifically their support and presence at the Human Relations Forum. <br /> 13 Rollin Russell read the following proclamation: <br /> 14 <br /> 15 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 16 HUMAN RELATIONS MONTH PROCLAMATION <br /> 17 <br /> 18 WHEREAS, the Orange County Human Relations Commission believes that in order to <br /> 19 achieve justice and equal opportunity for all Orange County residents, we must all strive to <br /> 20 create an atmosphere where people are valued and accepted rather than merely tolerated, and <br /> 21 therefore continue to promote the ideal of social justice for all; and <br /> 22 <br /> 23 WHEREAS, the Orange County Human Relations Commission has diligently served <br /> 24 Orange County since 1995 and remains committed to promoting equal treatment, opportunity <br /> 25 and understanding throughout the community; and <br /> 26 <br /> 27 WHEREAS, the Orange County Human Relations Commission enforces the County's <br /> 28 Civil Rights Ordinance which specifically prohibits discrimination based on an individual's race, <br /> 29 color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, disability, age, veteran status and familial status; and <br /> 30 <br /> 31 WHEREAS, the Orange County Human Relations Commission encourages Orange <br /> 32 County residents, as individuals, to take a stand against social injustice and continue to work <br /> 33 together to make freedom, justice, and equal opportunity available for all; and <br /> 34 <br /> 35 WHEREAS, Orange County is committed to preserving the progress made thus far <br /> 36 towards equality and leading the challenge for equal opportunity using all the means at our <br /> 37 disposal; <br /> 38 <br /> 39 NOW, THEREFORE, We, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, do hereby proclaim <br /> 40 February 2014 as "HUMAN RELATIONS MONTH" in Orange County and challenge all <br /> 41 residents to promote the ideology of social justice for all by celebrating and encouraging <br /> 42 multiculturalism in the County and encouraging all residents to embrace diversity in Orange <br /> 43 County. <br /> 44 <br /> 45 THIS THE 4t" DAY OF FEBRUARY, 2014. <br /> 46 <br /> 47 A motion was made by Commissioner Rich, seconded by Commissioner Price to <br /> 48 proclaim the month of February as "Human Relations Month" in Orange County and <br /> 49 authorizethe Chair to sign the proclamation. <br />
