Proclamation — Human Relations Month 9 The Board considered officially proclaiming the month of February as "Human Relations 10 Month" in Orange County and authorizing the Chair to sign the proclamation. 11 HRC Co-Chair Rollin Russell thanked the Board of County Commissioners for all of their 12 support, specifically their support and presence at the Human Relations Forum. 13 Rollin Russell read the following proclamation: 14 15 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS 16 HUMAN RELATIONS MONTH PROCLAMATION 17 18 WHEREAS, the Orange County Human Relations Commission believes that in order to 19 achieve justice and equal opportunity for all Orange County residents, we must all strive to 20 create an atmosphere where people are valued and accepted rather than merely tolerated, and 21 therefore continue to promote the ideal of social justice for all; and 22 23 WHEREAS, the Orange County Human Relations Commission has diligently served 24 Orange County since 1995 and remains committed to promoting equal treatment, opportunity 25 and understanding throughout the community; and 26 27 WHEREAS, the Orange County Human Relations Commission enforces the County's 28 Civil Rights Ordinance which specifically prohibits discrimination based on an individual's race, 29 color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, disability, age, veteran status and familial status; and 30 31 WHEREAS, the Orange County Human Relations Commission encourages Orange 32 County residents, as individuals, to take a stand against social injustice and continue to work 33 together to make freedom, justice, and equal opportunity available for all; and 34 35 WHEREAS, Orange County is committed to preserving the progress made thus far 36 towards equality and leading the challenge for equal opportunity using all the means at our 37 disposal; 38 39 NOW, THEREFORE, We, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, do hereby proclaim 40 February 2014 as "HUMAN RELATIONS MONTH" in Orange County and challenge all 41 residents to promote the ideology of social justice for all by celebrating and encouraging 42 multiculturalism in the County and encouraging all residents to embrace diversity in Orange 43 County. 44 45 THIS THE 4t" DAY OF FEBRUARY, 2014. 46 47 A motion was made by Commissioner Rich, seconded by Commissioner Price to 48 proclaim the month of February as "Human Relations Month" in Orange County and 49 authorizethe Chair to sign the proclamation.
