Halkiotis and Commissioners <br /> Margaret W. Brown, Moses Carey, Jr.,Alice M. Gordon and Barry Jacobs, <br /> COUNTY ATTORNEY PRESENT: Geoffrey Gledhill <br /> COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager John M. Link, Jr.,Assistant County Manager Rod <br /> Visser and Clerk to the Board Beverly A. ADDITIONS OR CHANGES TO THE AGENDA -NONE <br /> PUBLIC CHARGE <br /> The Chair dispensed with the reading of the public charge. <br /> 2. CITIZEN &AUDIENCE COMMENTS <br /> a. Matters not on the Printed Aaenda- NONE <br /> b. Matters on the Printed Agenda(These matters were considered as the Board addressed <br /> the items on the agenda below.) <br /> 3. BOARD COMMENTS <br /> Commissioner Gordon asked for information on how many students have shown up on the first day <br /> of school,tenth day, and twentieth day as the information becomes available. <br /> Commissioner Carey asked Clerk to the Board Beverly Blythe to provide him with a video of the <br /> next meeting of the Board,the Quarterly Public Hearing, because he will be away on professional duties. <br /> Chair Halkiotis said that there would be a public hearing on items that will be placed on the bond <br /> referendum next Monday,August 27th, at 7:00 p.m. in the F. Gordon Battle Courtroom in Hillsborough, <br /> North Carolina. He encouraged all citizens to come out and speak about the issues. <br /> Chair Halkiotis requested information about tax values. He has received several emails from <br /> citizens. He said that citizens in the towns were facing major tax increases in school district taxes, fire <br /> district taxes, increases in water rates, etc., and we need to see the total picture. He asked the <br /> Commissioners to take a $200,000 home and look at the impact on that home including all taxes and <br /> also in central and northern Orange. <br /> Chair Halkiotis reported that he,has asked that the ABC Board and its Chair to report to the County <br /> Commissioners in October on its activities. <br /> 4. COUNTY MANAGER'S REPORT <br /> John Link said that the face sheet of the public hearing will be sent out to all the elected officials, all <br /> those who served on the Capital Needs Task Force,the newspaper and posted on the County's web <br /> site. <br /> 5.
