♦ Hazard Control <br />Maintaining a safe working environment is the primary requirement in the development of an <br />accident prevention program. All new processes or equipment shall be reviewed and approved in <br />advanced by Health, Safety and Risk Management or trained safety personnel. <br />Provisions shall be made for completing a hazard assessment and furnishing all necessary <br />personal protective equipment to employees at those branches, where the determination has <br />been made that potential eye, noise, hand, foot or respiratory exposures exist. Whenever personal <br />protective equipment is provided, branch management will ensure that the equipment is properly <br />used. <br />♦ Safety Education and Safety Training <br />Safety education and training are fundamental parts of our safety culture and is required for all <br />employees. <br />Supervisory Training - The safety training of supervisors should be annually and is three-fold. <br />• To outline the policy regarding safety <br />• To present accident prevention fundamentals to supervisors <br />• To outline methods for applying these fundamentals in the operation of the safety program <br />The Employee Training and Education - An effective program will include an orientation to the <br />company by the safety coordinator or immediate supervisor and should be undertaken at the time <br />of employment. It should include the following with respect to safety on the job: <br />o The company philosophy <br />o Safety requirements which are a condition of employment <br />o The employee's safety responsibilities <br />o Safety rules and regulations <br />o The reporting all injuries to supervisors and the availability of first aid medical services <br />o Reporting unsafe conditions and practices to supervisors <br />o Annually required training (OSHA); (HazCom, Forklift, LOTO, Blood borne, etc) <br />These initial activities are to be supplemented in written form. Areas covered at these meetings <br />include follow -up instructions and additional safety training. Emphasis should be placed on the <br />quality and impact of these meetings with the frequency being a minimum of once monthly. <br />0 General Safety Rules <br />There are a large variety of methods to increase awareness. Each General /Branch Manager shall <br />ensure these elements are available and receive widespread publicity. There must be an <br />emphasis on the impact of these activities. <br />o Safety bulletins and poster boards <br />o Safety record or score boards by department and/or location <br />• Safety meeting materials such as films, slides, booklets, graphs, and flip charts <br />• Safety banners <br />• Safety signs <br />• Safety incentive programs <br />Iflasie Industries 7!10%111 lcsd Sec. 1.94 <br />30 <br />
