<br /> The Board of County Commissioners of Orange County met in regular session
<br /> on Monday, December 3, 1951, at 10 o'clock A. M. in the Commissioners' Room at
<br /> the Courthouse in Hillsboro, North Carolina.
<br /> Members present: Collier Cobb, Jr., Chairman, and Sim L. Efland, Commis-
<br /> sioner.
<br /> Members absent: R. 0. Forrest, Commissioner. —
<br /> The minutes of the November meetings were read and approved.
<br /> Several delegations appeared with reference to getting new roads in their
<br /> respective communities.
<br /> The following road petitions were presented:
<br /> A petition for a road in Cedar Grove Township, running from
<br /> Roy Oakley's to Eugene Tapp's. Length of road: .4 mile.
<br /> Mr. L. B. Ray presented a petition for a road in Cheeks
<br /> Township, running from the Standard Oil Company Bulk Plant
<br /> Road to paved Old Stage Road. Length of road: 995 feet.
<br /> Mr. Cooper appeared in connection with a road in Bingham Township running
<br /> from Highway No. 510, approximately 3 miles Northwest to Mount Willian Road,
<br /> Via Oak Grove Baptist Church. He stated that the petition for this road was
<br /> in the hands of Mr. Gunter.
<br /> A delegation from Cheeks Township, headed by Mr. Sykes, appeared in con-
<br /> nection with a petition that had previously been presented, calling for a road
<br /> running from Buckhorn to Hebron Road and known as the Hebron Church Road, a
<br /> distance of 2 miles.
<br /> The Board informed Mr. Sykes that due to the small mileage allotment, they `
<br /> did not feel that they could approve this road, but suggested that he see Mr.
<br /> Gunter, District Engineer, and see if something could be worked out to give
<br /> them some relief.
<br /> Upon motion of Commissioner Efland, duly seconded and passed, Ira A. Ward'
<br /> is hereby appointed Tar. Supervisor for a term of one year.
<br /> Upon motion duly made and seconded, Ira A. Ward is hereby authorized to
<br /> pay Clyde McPherson for services rendered as helper in testing cows for bangs
<br /> disease, the sum of 54.00. This sum to be paid from the General Fund Emergency
<br /> Appropriation.
<br /> Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was ordered that Orange County send
<br /> x$5.00 as a Christmas donation to the Caswell Training School.
<br /> Upon motion of Commissioner Efland, duly seconded, the following changes
<br /> were authorized in Aid to Blind Grants:
<br /> Addition of Jeanette Clark Norwood. Amount of Grant to be
<br /> x$35.00 per month.
<br /> Grant of Carrie Harward Brown reduced from $46.00 per month
<br /> to $43.00 per month.
<br /> Upon motion duly made and seconded, the County Employees are hereby
<br /> granted December 24, 25 and 26 as Christmas holidays. Permission is also
<br /> granted to close the offices on January 1, 1952.
<br /> Upon motion duly made and seconded, the following resolution was unanimousl
<br /> adopted:

<br /> WHEE' 74!4 , Section 153-135 of the General Statutes of north Carolina authoriz s,
<br /> empowers and directs the Board of County Commissioners to select and designate J
<br /> annually by recorded resolution some bank or trust company in this State as an
<br /> official depository of the funds of the County:
<br /> NOVI, THEREFORE, IT IS ACCORDINGLY ORDERED that the Durham Bank & Trust
<br /> Company, Hillsboro Branch, be, and the said Bank is hereby specifically desig-
<br /> nated as the official depository of the funds of Orange County for the period
<br /> beginning as of the first day of December, 1951, and ending on the first day
<br /> of December, 1952. -
<br /> It is understood that said designation is made on the same terms and condi-
<br /> tions as is set forth in the depository agreement made between the Board of
<br /> Commissioners of Orange County and the Durham Bank & Trust Company dated the
<br /> 9th day of April, 1951, as to the depositing in escrow with The Fidelity Bank
<br /> of Durham, North Carolina, bonds of the kinds set forth in said agreement of
<br /> not less than $175,000 par value, and upon the same terms and conditions as is
<br /> set forth in the depository agreement made between the Board of Commissioners
