1N <br /> Minutes of the Board of Commissioners of Orange County, Thursday Night July-22-I938 <br /> The Board met in adjourned session at 7.30., meet.ing. oalled to..-order by J,H Hanner,Chair <br /> man, present Commissicnnrs J.H Hanner,Carl T Durham and S.A Nathan <br /> G.VY R&y,Orange C aunty Tax Collector submitted his final report on the 1936 axes, as <br /> follows,to-wit: <br /> 1 <br /> Unpaid Tax receipts received from Sheriff.S.T Latta Jr July-5-1937— -$26.67I.29 <br /> additions----- afterlist $!12:10 <br /> Penalties 46IO2 <br /> land Sales Cost 49.50 623.32 <br /> Total Charge, ( 9'27.294.6I <br /> Decuctionef Releases 66:77 I( <br /> Land Sales $13.296.3I 13.363.08 <br /> Net Charge $j3.93I.53 <br /> Payments i $10.650.3I <br /> Uncollected 81.22— <br /> Less partial payments 316.52 <br /> Net uncollected $ 2.964.70, ' <br /> On motion of Commissioner Dukham,seconded by Commissioner Nathan, <br /> and unanimously passed,it: is hereby ordered that the foregoing <br /> settlement of I936 tax levy* as presented by G 'N.Ray,Tax Collector, <br /> and duly audited by K.W.Parham,C.P.A.,showing net unc©iledted balance <br /> on said levy of $2.964.70 be approved and accepted. <br /> It is further ordered that that the remaining uncollected amount be <br /> carried to the insolvent list and efforts be made to collect.._;same, <br /> together with other delinquent taxes, <br /> ltessrs.O.L Thomas,F,o Bowman and YarLall Cates members of the County <br /> i <br /> Board of 'Elections appeared before the Board,with the information <br /> that the Board of Elections had unanimously called an election , .on <br /> the -question,. -of A B.C.Stores in Orange County.Mr.J.TiJohnston asked I <br /> that the Board of Commissioners pass a resolution approving this or- <br /> der,of the Board of Eleetions,in order that the might not be <br /> delayed by injuaction.Yx.O.L.Thomas was recognized Athat the unanimous <br /> vote of his Board, in favor of the election did not mean,that the in-1 <br /> dividual members were either for,or against Liquor stores,but that-- I <br /> their vote was prompted by a petition w2 xAV4x signed by 8I2 -Votes <br /> of-Orange Count�t,when 771 signatures w cold make the required I5%. <br /> Mr.O.S Robertson,that it was not his intention to speak in behalf 64Y <br /> against liquor stores,but that he was of the opinion that the people <br /> of the County should be allowed to vote on the question, and tie.t he <br /> would be glad to see the Board of Commissioners grant Mr.Johnstons re-­ <br /> quest.Ur.B.D Sawyer was recognized and Voiced the same opinion as <br /> had been expressed by Mr•Robertson. <br /> 1 <br /> Mr.P.0 Collins was recognized and stated that he favored the electio <br /> being called.0ther Citizens present in favor of this measure ,Messrs.H.S,.Cates,Tom Vaughan and J.L Lockhart. <br /> �fter a lengthy consideration,the Board voiced the unanimous opinion; <br /> ,it did not oppose a liquor election being held,upon the petition of -- <br /> the number of Voters required by law,but it refused to grant Mr.John- <br /> stons request,to endorse officially the action of the Board of Electi+s <br /> in calling a vote on the question of A.B.C.Stores, <br /> i <br /> There beift no further business on motion adjourned to meet at Call <br /> or at the next regular meeting on August 1-I938 <br /> J.H,Hanner <br /> G.M7,Ray Chairman <br /> Clerk Pro-tern <br /> i <br /> 1 <br />
