May 25, 1967 Minutes continued <br /> Ayes: Commissioners Bennett, Ray, Walker, and ward. <br /> Noes: None. <br /> STATEMENT OF RESULT <br /> of the <br /> SPECIAL BOND ELECTION <br /> held in the <br /> COUNTY OF ORANGE, NORTH CAROLINA <br /> on May 23, 1967 <br /> 1 <br /> At a special bond election held throughout the County of Orange, <br /> North Carolina, on May 239 1967, 13,254 voters were registered and qualified <br /> to vote. <br /> At said election 4,041 votes were cast for the order authorizing the <br /> County of Orange to contract a debt and in evidence thereof to issue not <br /> exceeding $3,000,000 School Building Bonds of said County for the purpose of <br /> providing funds, with any other available funds, for erecting additional school <br /> buildings and other school plant facilities, remodeling, enlarging and <br /> reconstructing existing school buildings and other school plant facilities and <br /> acquiring necessary land and equipment therefor, to provide additional school <br /> facilities in the County of Orange to maintain the six months' school term in <br /> said County as required by Section 3 of Article IX of the Constitution, and <br /> authorizing the levy and collection of a sufficient tax for the payment of the <br /> principal of and the interest on said bonds, and 2,323 votes were cast against <br /> said order, that a majority of the qualified voters of said County who voted at <br /> said election voted in favor of the approval of said order, and that said order <br /> was thereby approved and is in force and effect. <br /> This statement is given by order of the Board of Commissioners for the <br /> County of Orange, this 25th day of May, 1967. <br /> /s/ H. Ward <br /> Commissioners <br /> At 11:00 o'clock a. m. the members of the Board of Commissioners for <br /> the County of Orange met with the Board of Elections of Orange County and the two <br /> boards as two separate bodies, received from the registrars and judges of election <br /> in the various precincts of Chapel Hill School District of Orange County the <br /> returns of the special election for supplemental tax, Chapel Hill School District, <br /> orange County, North Carolina, said election being held on May 23, 1967. <br /> After the returns of said special supplemental tax election had been <br /> canvassed by the Board of Commissioners, such canvass being simultaneous with <br /> the canvassing thereof by the County Board of Elections in the same place, <br /> Commissioner Ward introduced the following resolution which was read: <br /> RESOLUTION CANVASSING THE RETURNS <br /> OF THE SPECIAL ELECTION FOR SUPPLE- <br /> MENTAL TAX IN CHAPEL HILL SCHOOL <br /> DISTRICT, ORANGE COUNTY, HELD IN THE <br /> SAID DISTRICT ON MAY 23, 1967, and <br /> DETERMINING AND DECLARING THE RESULT <br /> THEREOF. <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners for the County of Orange: <br /> Sec. 1. The returns of the special election for supplemental tax in <br /> Chapel Hill School District held in said district on May 23, 1967, having been <br /> received from the proper election officers, and having been canvassed, the Board <br /> has found and determined, and does hereby declare: <br /> a. That each registrar and judge for the special election for <br /> supplemental tax held in the Chapel Hill School District on May 23, 1967, was <br /> duly qualified by law and had taken the necessary oath. <br /> b. That the election officers had incorporated in their returns not only <br /> the number of votes cast for and against the question submitted, but also the number <br /> of voters registered and qualified to vote in each precinct in the election. <br /> I <br /> c.
