The <br /> addition of a part-time staff person (Communications Coordinator) in 2005 has been <br /> helpful in this regard. <br /> Here is a summary of the city's current communications vehicles and practices: <br /> Current city newsletter: Published on a monthly basis. 16-20 pages. Contains <br /> information from most city departments as well as community-oriented stories from local <br /> agencies and residents. Articles typically cover "need-to-know" data for residents such <br /> as council action summaries, city events, and guidelines on snow removal, tree <br /> trimming, garbage collection, etc. <br /> Information is compiled by the Communications Coordinator and Assistant Council <br /> Administrator. The newsletter is distributed to all households and businesses in Red <br /> Wing. <br /> City web site: The current Red Wing web site offers information about city <br /> departments, council meetings, and some community events. The main navigation <br /> menu includes the categories: "Visiting; Doing Business; Living in Red Wing; City <br /> Government; City History; and Event Calendar." There are also menus for "Important <br /> Links" and an "Urgent Message." A new content management system web site was <br /> developed in 2003 to allow minor changes to be made by clerical support staff in each <br /> department/division. <br /> Cable television: The city's Channel 6 cable television channel includes programming <br /> such as: live and taped meetings of the Red Wing City Council, Advisory Planning <br /> Commission, Airport Board, Port Authority, Library Board, Harbor Commission, Housing <br /> and Redevelopment Authority, and the Sheldon Theatre Board. <br /> Channel 6 features the monthly News Notes show. This program covers a variety of <br /> city-related topics. <br /> Collateral materials: Red Wing publishes brochures and flyers to inform residents <br /> about upcoming events and helpful city information from departments and divisions. A <br /> Resident Guide is also produced annually and distributed to all residents and <br /> businesses. Direct mail pieces are also used in certain situations to communicate with <br /> specific groups or citywide. <br /> Local media: News releases to the media (non-public safety) concerning key issues <br /> are currently written by staff. Final editing and distribution is done by the Assistant <br /> Council Administrator. Columns are submitted to the Republican Eagle intermittently by <br /> the Assistant Council Administrator on behalf of the Council Administrator and other <br /> staff. <br />
