69 <br /> IV. Communications objectives <br /> 1.) Develop and maintain communications materials and programs to provide <br /> information to citizens, businesses, and other audiences regarding city programs <br /> and services, council policies, ordinances, city improvement projects, and <br /> developments that affect them. <br /> 2.) To effectively use local and regional news media to communicate with target <br /> audiences. <br /> 3.) To identify potential issues and develop a specific communications strategy for <br /> dealing with them. <br /> 4.) Develop a crisis communications plan that clearly identifies how and by whom <br /> information will be disseminated to the city's elected officials, the public, the <br /> media, and other target audiences in the event of a crisis. <br /> 5.) Provide feedback mechanisms so city customers may comment about City <br /> Council actions, city staff, city services, and programs. <br /> 6.) Actively participate in telecommunications opportunities (such as public access) <br /> available to the city and implement programs that are economically feasible and <br /> practical. <br /> 7.) Promote effective internal communications through regular exchange of <br /> information and programs that enable city employees to perform theirjobs more <br /> efficiently, cooperatively, and with a greater sense of satisfaction. <br /> 8.) Promote effective government-to-government communication through regular <br /> informal meetings with the County Board, School Board, and the Prairie Island <br /> Tribal Council. <br /> 9.) Work with community groups, neighborhoods, the business community, and <br /> various organizations in communicating news and information to target <br /> audiences. <br /> 10.) Designate a Communications Coordinator to achieve the objectives outlined in <br /> the Communications Plan. <br /> V. Target audiences <br /> The City of Red Wing's key target audiences for the communications plan are- <br /> - Current residents (Inform them, keep them engaged in the city, make them feel <br /> like they are "stakeholders" of the city and deserve to be kept "in the loop.") <br /> - Current business owners (Show them support for locating in Red Wing, inform <br /> them of local ordinances, ensure they are receiving accurate information to help <br /> their business thrive in the city.) <br /> - Prospective residents (Recruit them to live in the city and help them become a <br /> productive part of our community.) <br /> - Prospective business owners (Recruit them to locate in the city and improve <br /> municipal tax revenue.
