July 2003 —June 2006—Work with the CVB to promote the City through the <br /> new video, as well as providing City publications that may entice a visitor or to <br /> come to Hickory. <br /> ? July 2003 —October 2005 —Help begin planning of the North Carolina League of <br /> Municipalities conference that will bring about 2,000 government officials to <br /> Hickory for three days. <br /> Predicted cost— Staff time. <br /> 2. Chamber of Commerce—Work with the Chamber of Commerce to promote Hickory <br /> to the metropolitan area, and visitors who visit each year. <br /> Action Plan: <br /> ? Provide the Chamber with city brochures, annual reports, publications and <br /> informational books that tourists and business visitors would pick up and read <br /> while visiting the City. <br /> Predicted cost—Staff time and existing publications. <br /> The City of Hickory is the hub of Northwestern North Carolina and the center of business <br /> and commerce for about 350,000 people. According to 2003 North Carolina Planning <br /> figures, about 38,000 people live within the city limits. It is merely impossible to make <br /> personal contact with all of these citizens, but by working closely with all media outlets <br /> and by developing cost-effective methods of communicating with Hickory households, <br /> accurate information will be available to citizens. <br /> 16 <br />
