He noted that the 4 development of a fire department sub-station on Neville Road caused concern amongst 5 neighboring property owners who felt they were not involved or informed. It was suggested that 6 the code be amended to require a neighborhood information meeting for these government 7 process. 8 He said that there are provisions to address concerns from departments who go through 9 long public planning processes for development of infrastructure. 10 He said one planning board member voted against this, as he felt it created 11 unnecessary expense for local fire departments. 12 He said there has been no public comment. 13 Commissioner McKee said he would like to clarify that this provides for an information 14 meeting only, and it will not change any UDO regulations or requirements. 15 Michael Harvey said this is correct. 16 Commissioner Rich asked if this information will be on a website for neighbors who 17 might not be able to make a meeting. 18 Michael Harvey said comments are typically posted on the Orange County website. He 19 said the public can be made aware of this in the public notice mailings. 20 Commissioner Price asked if the fire departments be responsible for all costs associated 21 with the meetings. 22 Michael Harvey said yes. 23 Commissioner McKee said there are costs with sending out certified letters to inform the 24 community. He said these projects are permitted rights and the information meetings are only 25 to notify and inform the community. He said the White Cross residents were upset about not 26 having been notified about the siting of this substation, not about the existence of the substation 27 itself. He said most residents he has spoken with were pleased with the actual substation and 28 the benefits it offers. 29 Commissioner Pelissier said this was not a planned cost for this year. She said, going 30 forward, the fire departments can budget for the costs associated with new substations, 31 including information sessions. 32 Chair Jacobs the information session produced good results and most seemed pleased 33 with the outcome. He said these meetings serve a valuable function to provide information and 34 allow for questions. He said there was a meeting with local DOT staff last week, and a question 35 was raised regarding the safety of the bridge on Neville Road. He said this was a concern 36 shared by the people living in that area. He said a response was given, and he asked 37 Commissioner McKee to summarize this. 38 Commissioner McKee said the bridge in question is located south of the substation and 39 there was concern that the fire trucks would overburden and collapse the bridge. He said the 40 DOT is rebuilding that bridge into a concrete structure to address this concern. 41 42 A motion was made by Commissioner McKee, seconded by Commissioner Price to: 43 44 1.
