He noted that the <br /> 4 development of a fire department sub-station on Neville Road caused concern amongst <br /> 5 neighboring property owners who felt they were not involved or informed. It was suggested that <br /> 6 the code be amended to require a neighborhood information meeting for these government <br /> 7 process. <br /> 8 He said that there are provisions to address concerns from departments who go through <br /> 9 long public planning processes for development of infrastructure. <br /> 10 He said one planning board member voted against this, as he felt it created <br /> 11 unnecessary expense for local fire departments. <br /> 12 He said there has been no public comment. <br /> 13 Commissioner McKee said he would like to clarify that this provides for an information <br /> 14 meeting only, and it will not change any UDO regulations or requirements. <br /> 15 Michael Harvey said this is correct. <br /> 16 Commissioner Rich asked if this information will be on a website for neighbors who <br /> 17 might not be able to make a meeting. <br /> 18 Michael Harvey said comments are typically posted on the Orange County website. He <br /> 19 said the public can be made aware of this in the public notice mailings. <br /> 20 Commissioner Price asked if the fire departments be responsible for all costs associated <br /> 21 with the meetings. <br /> 22 Michael Harvey said yes. <br /> 23 Commissioner McKee said there are costs with sending out certified letters to inform the <br /> 24 community. He said these projects are permitted rights and the information meetings are only <br /> 25 to notify and inform the community. He said the White Cross residents were upset about not <br /> 26 having been notified about the siting of this substation, not about the existence of the substation <br /> 27 itself. He said most residents he has spoken with were pleased with the actual substation and <br /> 28 the benefits it offers. <br /> 29 Commissioner Pelissier said this was not a planned cost for this year. She said, going <br /> 30 forward, the fire departments can budget for the costs associated with new substations, <br /> 31 including information sessions. <br /> 32 Chair Jacobs the information session produced good results and most seemed pleased <br /> 33 with the outcome. He said these meetings serve a valuable function to provide information and <br /> 34 allow for questions. He said there was a meeting with local DOT staff last week, and a question <br /> 35 was raised regarding the safety of the bridge on Neville Road. He said this was a concern <br /> 36 shared by the people living in that area. He said a response was given, and he asked <br /> 37 Commissioner McKee to summarize this. <br /> 38 Commissioner McKee said the bridge in question is located south of the substation and <br /> 39 there was concern that the fire trucks would overburden and collapse the bridge.
