n <br /> Productions is a valuable opportunity for students to expand their <br /> theatrical vision, making it an important part of the Triangle's youth <br /> theatre community. <br /> Proposed Use of Grant Funds <br /> One Song Productions would use the grant funds to support the <br /> winter, spring, and summer shows of its 2013-2014 season. Each <br /> performance, with the exception of the summer show, is directed and <br /> produced by the One Song Board of Directors, and the casts and <br /> technical crews are entirely made up of high school students. All of <br /> One Song's shows are chosen to reflect modern social issues and <br /> emerging theatrical styles that might not make an appearance in school <br /> theater departments; One Song does this to give students an <br /> opportunity to expand their horizons with unique and challenging roles. <br /> This season's winter show, Dog Sees God.• Confessions of a <br /> Teenage Blockhead, by Bert V. Royal, will be directed by board <br /> member Aaron Josephs. This satire explores the lives of the famous <br /> Peanuts characters as modern, 21 st century teenagers. The story <br /> begins after CB's (Dog Sees God's Charlie Brown figure) dog dies, <br /> the first of many challenges the characters face. Royal's characters are <br /> forced into a variety of serious issues regarding sexuality and peer <br /> pressure. Many of the topics discussed in Dog Sees God, such as drug <br /> usage and homophobia, reflect the current social climate in the <br /> American education system. This play will challenge the cast with its <br /> intense and socially relevant concepts, and exemplifies One Song's <br /> goal of giving students complex and important roles. <br /> In the spring, we will be producing a showcase, entitled"A <br /> Most Rare Vision," which features selections from the works of <br /> William Shakespeare. Directors Nell Ovitt and Victoria Brancazio will <br /> work with other students in an effort to explore Shakespeare's plays, <br /> texts that often unnecessarily intimidate young actors. In addition to <br /> sharing similar themes and topics, the scenes will be tailored to the <br />
