Blues, on harmonica and guitar and present traditional blues music and stories from the
Mississippi Delta, providing both a geography and history lesson.
The audience for this performance will be the 8th grade student body of 222 students.
This show will supplement the 8th grade studies of North Carolina and U.S. history and
the cultural values and beliefs of different groups that had an impact not just on society
but on the arts. The racial composition of the audience will be as follow: White (52%),
Black (13%), Asian (18%), Hispanic (11%), Multi-Racial (6%).
Contact information featuring video clips of performances can be found here:
http://guydavis.com/guydavis/biography.htm
Charles Pettee and the Iron Mountain Messengers will perform two shows of
Bluegrass Stomp in the fall semester of 2014. These performances will be for the 6th
grade students and 7th grade students, each with audiences of about 215. The racial
composition of the audience will be as follows: White (47%), Black (16%), Asian (21%),
Hispanic (10%) and Multi (6%). Charles Pettee uses a blend of original and traditional
American folk, bluegrass and Celtic music highlighting the mandolin, guitar, mandola
and harmonica. His show illustrates how Bluegrass music was influenced by music that
came to the U.S. from other parts of the world. This ties into the social studies common
core standards related to cultural values and how environmental factors can change
culture.
Contact information for Charles Pettee, with videos of performances:
http://www.chariespettee.com/
http://www.charlespettee.com/iron-mountain-messengers-tunes.htm
Staff Roster
Jane Cutchin - Phillips Middle School Band Director
Anne Daaleman - Phillips Middle School Orchestra Director
Angela Greene - NBPTS Visual Arts Teacher Phillips Middle School
Seamus Kenney - Phillips Middle School Choral Director
Jacob Sheffer— Phillips Middle School Drama Teacher
Jonathan Enns - Phillips Middle School Principal
