i
photographs with titles and descriptions explaining each picture. Colorful, interior water-
based paint will be used.
In 1996 the Central High School became Hillsboro Elementary School, which comprises 460
students and 55 faculty members. Because the Committee wants the project to connect to
the young audience, members will be particularly aware of making the walls child friendly,
which would magically draw young students to them: drawing flowers, little butterflies, and
using child fonts, and their little hand prints will be one way of attracting these 4th and 5th
graders. The goal is for these children at Hillsboro Elementary to connect the history of
Central High to their current student body.
The project would begin not later than April 1,2014,and be unveiled during the summer
2014.
COMMUNITY IMPACT
The first impact of the exhibit will take place at the building level itself. Besides students
viewing it every day, teachers can use the finished wall as a gateway to history lessons,
especially for teaching local Orange County history. Moreover, every Central High graduate
who's able to walk would come and visit the walls. PTA meetings offer another opportunity
to tout the history. local and social media (Facebook, twitter, News of Orange, district
website, principals' blog, superintendent, school board, etc.) would be involved in the
project. The Orange County Historical Museum has partnered with the project to add
another element to this proposal in the form of an online exhibit (see email enclosed).
ARTIST EXPERIENCE
I have served as Projector Director for all of Fiddler Joe Thompson's(claimed both by
Alamance and Orange counties) exhibits in Mebane. In 2004, 1 directed the DVD Life and
Times of Joe Thompson and subsequently went to work on the kiosk in Joe's honor, which
now is a model exhibit housed in the Mebane Museum, which is described in the attached
news clipping. DVDs were duplicated so that libraries and schools in Alamance and Orange
counties had copies of the DVD. The Orange County Arts Commission provided partial
funding for these projects. The artist that will be hired for this project is Amos Stokes,
SADAT,an accomplished artist(see resume and DVD).
