Arts in Education Grant-Fall 2013-14 McDougle Elementary School PTA 7 Resumes of Key Artists and Administrators Involved in Grant Funded Programs Mike Wiley Acclaimed actor and playwright Mike Wiley has spent the last decade fulfilling his mission to bring educational theatre to young audiences and communities across the country. In the early days of his career,Wiley found feat/theatrical resources to shine a light on key events and figures in A ` n-American history.To bring these stories to life, he started his own production company. Through his performances,Wiley has introduced countless students and communities to the legacies of Emmett Till, Henry"Box" Brown and more. His most recent works include a one-man play based on Tim Tyson's memoir Blood Done Sign My Name and The Parchman Hour, an ensemble production celebrating the bravery and determination of the Freedom Riders who risked their lives to desegregate Southern interstate bus travel in 1961. Mike Wiley has a Masters of Fine Arts from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is the 2010 Lehman Brady Visiting Joint Chair Professor in Documentary Studies and American Studies at Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. in addition to his numerous school and community performances, he has also appeared on Discovery Channel, The Learning Channel and National Geographic Channel and has been featured in Our State magazine and on PBS'North Carolina Nvw and WUNC's The State of Things. Li Liu Li Liu was born in the city of Shenyang which is located in Liaoning Province in the Northeast of China. When she was six years old she began her acrobatic training., and the following year she was chosen to attend the Chinese National Circus School in the capitol city of Beijing.While in Beijing she trained for eight hours a day until the age of 16. During the evening she was required to study math, science, the reading and writing of Chinese characters, and other academic subjects. In 1984 her artistic cycling act won a gold medal at the prestigious Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain in Paris, France. She often teamed with her sister Liu Ying to create duo acts that were conceived of and coached by her father Liu Gui Ting. In 1995 their duo hand balancing act was selected to perform at the Wu Qiao Intemational Circus Festival where they were awarded the "Golden Lion" prize. For manly years Ms. Liu traveled extensively throughout Europe, Africa and Asia with the Liaoning Acrobatic Arts Taupe. She performed with Zirkus Knie in Switzerland, Circus Krone in Germany and with countless other touring shows in Italy, Holland, France, South Africa, Singapore, Japan and Indonesia. She came to the United States in 2000 with Ringling Brothers Barnum& Bailey Circus and toured all over the US for two years. Li has been living in the US and working as a freelance performer since 2002. She is a regular on the NBA&WNBA half- time circuits and also is a featured performer on Princess Cruise Lines. Page 8of21
