songs and by having the children play rhythm instruments . Children should have access to music
at least one hour each day. However, the access of significantly handicapped children to these
experiences is limited. Providing these devices so that physically and cognitively handicapped
children can more fully experience the music curriculum will support their involvement and
engagement as well as add music as a dimension that can reach children in unique ways that other
methods, such as talking, cannot.Music can reach people of diverse abilities and has been shown
to boost academic success and personal happiness.Coupled with early intervention and
education, this project should add tremendous value to the learning experience of these young
children.
• Description of Devices Use—Grant funds would be used to purchase musical enabling devices,
specifically switch-activated devices that are expertly designed electro-mechanical assistive and
adaptive devices that enable people with physical challenges to communicate, learn, work, play,
and function more easily, effectively, and enjoyably in the world. These devices would be shared
by all the preschools on a rotating basis.Music is an art that is important in almost all cultures
and that can be enjoyed by all people, regardless of age or ability. Children in particular can be
excited by the sounds, rhythms, and beats of music they hear or create. The goals of Accessible
Music and Play for All Preschool Children are: (1)To provide age appropriate and accessible
musical materials to children in our district with physical and cognitive delays;(2)To provide
materials for IEP attainment;(3)to provide materials for social interaction with peers and
teachers;(4)to provide materials to increase communication with peers and teachers;and(5)to
provide motivating and fun play. Through purchase and use of these materials, the world of
music will be opened up to the early learners in our district and will provide enjoyment for years
to come.
OCAC Preschool Music Project
Budget
Item Cost
Materials and Supplies Item Cost
Fuzzy Friends&Switches Kit 4064 459.95
Adapted Music Kit 4063N 1599.95
Quick Start Communication Kit 9024 799.95
Battery Interrupter Kit #2 681 178.95
Talking Containerizing Toy 363 154.95
CD Boom Box 393 136.95
Transportation Kit 9400 596.95
Classical Violin 3102 38.95
TOTAL 3966.6
