How could the Student Enrichment Grant(SEG)process itself be improved?
I really don't have any suggestions.I think the SEG process is easy and straightforward as
it is.
How did you acknowledge the Chapel Hill-Carrboro School Foundation's grant?
I publicized this within the school. Because I deliberately chose children who are
economically disadvantaged, I did not feel able to publicize this project further. I did tell the
parents of my guitarlings about the grant,in part so they would understand they did not have
to spend any money in order for their child to learn guitar.
I would like to acknowledge two local businesses. High Strung Guitars in Durham lent
me a few different types of guitars last spring so I could determine the best type to purchase
for my group. Also,Carrboro Music Loft has offered to replace strings on the guitars free of
charge.
My friend,Joff Coe,a-guitarist and instrument repairman,repaired, at no charge,a
donated guitar for one of the students to keep.
I'd also like to thank Carmen Castanet, first grade teacher at Carrboro, for lending me her
classroom every Thursday afternoon.
Olivia Hart,an intern with the PSF, visited and filmed a guitar class. She also interviewed
me about Joy of Guitar. She will be submitting her film to the PSF.
And,of course,I want to thank all of you at the Public School Foundation for generously
supporting this project. You have made a difference in the lives of these children.
(Please attach anv applicable printed material.)
Signature of Project Director:
Evaluations should be emailcd to the Foundation at ps&,chccs.kl2.nc.us upon completion
of the project AND send a hard copy to: Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public School Foundation,
