AQt Albertson's Alligators <br /> Classroom News <br /> September 4, 2012 <br /> Welcome to First Grade! It was so wonderful to meet you all at open house! It was also a great first week of <br /> school! I'm very excited about teaching first grade again this year and really getting to know my new students! <br /> Let me tell you a little bit about myself. My name is Hope Albertson, and this is my fifth year at GAB and my <br /> seventh year teaching overall. I live in Durham. My husband, Daniel, and I just bought our first house a year <br /> ago and have thoroughly enjoyed making it a home! I have been married for four years and have a cat named <br /> Kole. I graduated from Wake Forest University; therefore I am a huge Wake Forest fan! I also love the Tar <br /> Heels, love to play and watch sports, and LOVE to shop! If you need anything, please feel free to call (919-732- <br /> 6138 ext. 45103), e-mail (hope.albertson @orange.k12.nc.us), or send in a note. <br /> Show-and-Tell —Each student will have a specific Show-and-Tell day each week if they would like to bring in <br /> something. The item should be something that can be kept in their book bag until share time. It cannot be <br /> anything living or that could be considered a weapon (such as plastic swords, guns, etc.). <br /> Homework—Homework will be given Monday-Thursday. There will be a math worksheet, a spelling <br /> assignment, and a book or bag of books (BOB)will be sent home to be read. Please do both sides on the <br /> math homework page. The spelling assignments will be relatively the same each week. The words will change <br /> each week, though. I will send home the new spelling words each Monday in my newsletter. It is important <br /> that spelling words are practiced each night. Please listen to your child read the book, maybe ask them a few <br /> questions about what they have read, and sign the reading log chart (this will start next Monday, Sept. 9th). <br /> Understanding what they have read is just as important as being able to read the words. <br /> Spelling homework schedule— <br /> Tuesday—write each word twice, and then circle the vowels with a crayon, colored pencil or marker <br /> Wednesday—Write all words in ABC (alphabetical) order twice <br /> Thursday—Triangle words—Write each word adding one letter at a time.
