As a practicing artist and cultural worker, my goals remain consistently to create a
highly skilled and collaborative community comprised of mature and thoughtful professionals
who will share their work and ideas together through public exhibitions, lectures, seminars, and
retreats. Several years ago after a career emphasizing my teaching and commercial art, I am now
returning to my early focus on advocacy and intervention, but this time as a mature artist and
community worker rather than a special education therapist. As a practicing artist, it is critical
that I can make an artistic statement that is meaningful as well as accessible to the public.
With grant support for materials and research, I can make time for continuous growth and
technical development to consider deeper ideas. I will be afforded additional personal research
time to explore current issues and meet with local community groups such as Friends with
Families from China, the Eurasia Group in New York City, local China scholars, and friends and
neighbors of Chinese origin who have raised families in this country or whose families still
reside in China. My public community forums will provide for discussion and examination of
current issues and environmental challenges that Chinese, Americans, and Chinese Americans
experience today, exploring love, life, culture, and family.
Letters of support
Letters of support will be provided upon request from Laura Griest, Manager of UNC
Global Events and Exhibitions, Townsend Ludington,Boshamer Distinguished Professor of
American Studies and English, Samm Sacks, China Analyst Eurasia Group, Heather Seymour,
parent, Families with Children from China, Triangle Chapter.
