2
renderings for the fourth level and exhibited as Beijing Impressions, Extended at the National
Institutes of Health Gallery in Bethesda,Maryland in 2007. The work was presented as collaged
diptychs merging photography with pen and ink sketches and was collected in public and private
venues in the Washington DC metro area including The University of Maryland. The fifth and
most current rendition was exhibited at the UNC Global Education Center,Portraits of a Shifting
Landscape in 2012. The reprocessing of this body of work resulted in a new installation of 9 silk
organza translucent panels in collaboration with Carrboro fabric artist Peg Gignoux that blended
photographic composites and graphite drawings and a 17' banner that now resides in the
Armfield Atrium of the UNC Gillings School of Public Health.
The silk installation was originally fabricated for the Global Education Center
collaboration with Tyroler's Beijing Impressions, Portraits of a Shifting Landscape in 2012.
Gignoux incorporated a composite from a diptych that includes Sacks' drawing of 3 girls from
the countryside huddled together and Tyroler's photograph of 2 city girls on their bicycles. It
then traveled with Tyroler's photography to the FRANK Gallery for the 2012 FRANK:inFocus
photo symposium, and is currently displayed in a juried exhibition at the Sebastopo Center for
the Arts in San Francisco.
tin at,vw_examiner.crnn/review/world-cl ass-fiber-art-sebastono
Community Impact
The Unitarian church was founded in 1953 in a challenge to the racial segregation that
prevailed in North Carolina.
