Coretta Sharpless<csharpless @chccs.k12.nc.us> ` -' n `)r _ 2 e-,5 1 AIA Greetings Mrs. Gwynne, I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation for the opportunity to witness Frank Porter Graham's final Arts In Action performance this past spring. The leadership demonstrated as the stud entsperformed and transitioned served as a reminder of why students need opportunities to participate in the arts. It has been my experience that students are able to find/strengthen their voice and begin connecting to their future through programs such as Arts in Action. At Northside we are committed to ensuring that students continue to enhance their growth potential. I believe Arts In Action (AIA) will provide an additional resource to support student leadership development, creativity and collaboration skills. I also believe AIA will provide a platform for students to practice prioritizing and setting goals. As a school, the Fourth Grade Teachers, Technology Facilitator, School Library Media Coordinator , Music Teacher and our Physical Education Teacher will work with the Administration to: (1) coordinate scheduling which maximizes students` academic learning; (2) ensure available rehearsal space; and (3) support the basic AIA pedagogy. After only two sessions, the students, staff and families are all buzzing about the excitement. Having had the pleasure of dancing with each group, I was able to see the enthusiasm and pride exhibited by each class. This program has already exemplified how it unites and encourages students to excel. I have no doubt it will continue to be an asset to the growth and development of our entire school community. Again, thanks for supporting our Fourth Graders as they experience the Arts In Action program. Coretta B.
