%~ <br />Minutes of the Board of Commisaioners <br />Alonday, December ~, 1950 <br />The Board of Commissioners for the County of Orange met in regular session <br />at SO o'clock A. M., on Monday, December L<, 1950, ih the Convnissionars~ Room at <br />the Courthouse. Members present were Collier Cobb, Jr., Chairman, H. G. Laws <br />and Sim L. Efland, Commissioners. <br />The minutea of the November meetings were read and approved. <br />Upon motion of Commiss Sonar Laws, seconded by Commie stoner Efland and by <br />a unanimous vote, L. J. Phipps was appointed Judge of Recorder's Court for a <br />term oftwo years.. <br />IIpon motion of Commi ss Sonar Laws, seconded by Commissioner Efland and by a <br />unanimous vote, Sohn Q. LeGrand was appointed Prosecuting Attorney for a term <br />of two years. <br />IIpon notice oP their appointments, Mr. Phipps and Mr. LeGrand appeared and <br />wore administered the oath of office, by Chal rman Collier Cobb. <br />Don S. Matheson, County Farm Agent and Ed H. Barnes, Asaiatant County Farm <br />Agent appeared and submitted their annual report. <br />Mr. Bonner D. Sawyer and othor members of the H111 sboro School Committee <br />appeared and reported on the crowded conditions existing at the Hillsboro Ydh Ste <br />School, Thep stated that they had recommended to the Hoard of Education that <br />the Roulac prooerty situated at the Northern city limits and East of Churton <br />Street be purchased for the building of an elementary school. <br />Air. G. T. Proffit, Superintendent of Schools reported that vocational <br />teachers would share in the surplus of state funds to be paid as supplemental <br />salaries, and that if the County participated in this, it would cost the County <br />$731.17. No action was taken. <br />Upon motion of Commisaloner Efland, seconded by Commissioner Laws, Kenneth <br />R. Davis of Chanel Hill was granted a reduction on hie personal prooerty listing <br />from X2265.00 to X1025.00. <br />n motion of Commiesionor Lawa, ae conded by Commissioner Efland, it was <br />that the Caswe7.l Training School be sent $5.00 as a Christmas donation. <br />of Comnissi oner Efland, seconded by Commissioner Lawa, all <br />were granted December 25th and 26th as Christmas holidays, <br />951 to be observed as a holiday. <br />Upon mot ton of Commissioner Laws, seconded by Commissioner Efland, lra A. <br />tlard was appointed Tax Supervisor for a term of one year. Tho oath of office <br />was adminis tared to Afr. 4Yard by Chairman Cobb, after which Mr. Ward recommended <br />that the follpwing cl ti zaps be appointed tax lis tars for the coming year; <br />Chanel Hill - L. R. Cheek <br />Hingham - J. C. Lloyd <br />Cheeks - Henry R. Heath <br />Hillsboro - Remus J. Smith, Jr. <br />Little River - A. E. Wilson <br />Cedar Grove - R. C. Compton <br />Eno - Mrs. Mnrion A. Cates <br />Now, Therefore, upon motion of Commissioner Efland, seconded by Commission, <br />~s, the above persons vrere appointed as list takers for the gear 1951. <br />IIpon motion of Commissioner Laws, aeconded by Commissioner Efland, and in <br />ordance with Section 901 (G, 5. - 105-307 of the Machinery Act), it was <br />.a red that the following names be turned over to the Grand Jury for failure <br />list taxes: James Johnson, Willie Ashley, Frank Stutta, Jack Atoore, Yiilbur <br />ker, George Smith, Dan Meb¢ne, Luther Yates, Gladys White, Clyde (Pete) <br />11s, Wada Riggsbee, Ylillie A. Gates and Roland Nickerson. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Laws, seconded by Commissioner Efland, it was <br />.e red that Tames J. Jeffries be increased from <br />to $50.00 per month. <br />
