One full-time Domestic Violence <br /> Coordinator,whose primary duties are legal advocacy and court assistance, already works in <br /> the Sheriffs Department providing assistance to all referrals. This new award will allow <br /> funding for a full-time Support Counsel. The domestic violence team will provide supportive <br /> counseling, information and referral,court advocacy in both criminal and civil court, assistance <br /> accessing community resources and follow-up services to ensure that victims of domestic <br /> violence are not forced to return to their batterer. The team will also participate in training <br /> law-enforcement officers regarding issues of domestic violence. <br /> The grant award is 75%federal funds with 25%county match.
