The report also contains a draft Request for Proposals, to be <br /> used in evaluating consultants' qualifications to complete the nomination of the Cedar Grove Rural <br /> Historic District to the National Register of Historic Places. <br /> Background. Orange County conducted an inventory of historic architectural resources within its <br /> jurisdiction during 1992-93. During the inventory, Cedar Grove was identified as potentially <br /> eligible for the National Register of Historic Places as a Rural Historic District. In July 1993, it was <br /> placed on the National Register Study List by the North Carolina National Register Advisory <br /> Committee. <br /> In early 1995,a study of a National Register nomination for a Cedar Grove Crossroads historic <br /> district was completed by Shannon Sexton,a Planning Department intern for completion of a UNC- <br /> CH masters thesis project. The study entailed numerous on-site interviews with Cedar Grove <br /> residents as well as in-depth historical research. During the study,many residents became aware of <br /> the National Register process,and Ms. Sexton's efforts garnered considerable support for a <br /> National Register listing. The study,which included a draft National Register nomination,was <br /> critiqued by the National Register Coordinator of the State Historic Preservation Office(SHPO). <br /> The Coordinator recommended that the historic district parameters be expanded to include the <br /> historical landscapes associated with the crossroads area.
