1 <br /> 7 <br /> 1996/97 Work Plan <br /> Triangle J Council of Governments Board of Delegates <br /> Goals to Improve the Economic Competitiveness of the Region <br /> Goal: Identify the key factors and pursue cooperative projects that will <br /> keep this Region economically competitive and promote actions on the part of <br /> local,state and federal governments that will strengthen the Region's economy. <br /> • With the staff of the Greater Triangle Regional Council,promote regional <br /> transportation planning. • Pursue a regional economic forecasting model which <br /> builds on economic analysis, current state,national and international economic <br /> trends, and the effects of new public policies and social trends upon businesses. <br /> • Undertake cooperative demographic forecasting. • Undertake regional water <br /> quality management strategies to protect water supplies in both the Neuse and Cape <br /> Fear River basins. • Identify long-term development alternatives and assessment of <br /> the costs associated with various development patterns. • Conduct a long-term <br /> study of water supplies. • Promote the development and use of the Triangle J GIS <br /> and Regional Data Center. • Update,publish and market the Metro Map. • <br /> Explore regional planning role in providing affordable housing. • Continue the <br /> regional biosolids composting effort. • Convene and staff the Regional Marketing <br /> Group. <br /> Goal: Further the Internationalization of the Region's Economy <br /> • Continue to serve on the International Committee of the Greater Raleigh Chamber <br /> of Commerce. • Support the World Trade Center North Carolina as corporate <br /> secretary and executive board member. • Maintain world trade contacts via the <br /> North Carolina World Trade Association,re-elected State Executive Board Secretary. <br /> • Re-elected as NCWTA Triangle Chapter President. • Host for the 1997 NCWTA <br /> Annual Conference in Raleigh. • Serve as the grantee for Foreign Trade Zone#93 <br /> and meet all contractual responsibilities for Zone#93 and Subzones;market the <br /> general purpose zone and develop new subzones as needed,provide training and <br /> make public presentations. • Meet the contractual responsibilities of FTZ grantee <br /> representative for the North Carolina Department of Commerce and develop other <br /> FTZ administrative contracts. <br /> Goal: Assist member governments, individually or collectively, to deliver <br /> cost-effective services to their citizens. <br /> • Continue the push for an affordable, regional telephone system. • Conduct a <br /> survey of local governments to ascertain the extent of damage to business related <br /> infrastructure caused by Hurricane Fran and prepare Federal EDA planning grant <br /> application. • Explore new sources for assistance to governments and business. • <br /> Seek alternative sources & funds for the COG and for the member governments. <br /> • Lobby for the interests of the Region at the state and federal levels. <br /> 10/96 <br />
