3 <br /> PC SUPPORT SPECIALIST/COMPUTER OPERATOR <br /> GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK <br /> Performs responsible technical work in installation, troubleshooting and repair of personal <br /> computers and in basic administration of local area networks; monitors and operates a computer <br /> system; does related work as required. <br /> Work is performed under regular supervision. <br /> TYPICAL TASKS: l <br /> Performs in-house installation, repair and troubleshooting of new or existing personal computer <br /> workstations and network servers; <br /> Responds to user requests involving problems with personal computer hardware and operating <br /> system software; <br /> Performs basic installation, administration,troubleshooting and user support for local area <br /> networks; <br /> Provides technical support desk and telephone support for personal computer and network related <br /> calls from users; <br /> Operates and monitors a computer system with magnetic tape, line printer, data communications, <br /> terminal and other peripheral equipment; <br /> Performs related tasks as required. <br /> KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND RILITIES: <br /> General knowledge of principles and practices in installation and support of microcomputer <br /> systems and local area networks; general knowledge of current and developing microcomputer <br /> technology; general knowledge of personal computer operating systems and applications; general <br /> knowledge of microcomputer maintenance techniques including hardware troubleshooting and <br /> diagnosis; ability to use tools and perform tasks involving microcomputer and network <br /> maintenance; ability to maintain effective working relationships with information systems and <br /> user personnel; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to understand technical <br /> reports and manuals. <br /> EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE• <br /> Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited <br /> community college with major coursework in computer science,computer technology, computer <br /> information systems or related field; and at least two years experience in installation, repair, <br /> support and administration of microcomputer systems. <br />
