F <br /> Carton Council <br /> Attachment A— Grant Program Plan <br /> Orange County Solid Waste Management Department—Carton Council Grant Plan <br /> Start Date: October 1,2013 Target End Date: December 31,2013 <br /> 1.In-store promotions at Weaver Street Market(three locations): <br /> a. Pre-approved by Weaver Street Market, a$12 million annual grossing company with high <br /> name recognition,three stores and local leader in sustainability. Also at local Whole Foods <br /> in Chapel Hill. Their customers `know' that if they are shopping there,the store is carrying <br /> items that are as sustainable as possible including the packaging,but many do not yet know <br /> that all these cartons are recyclable, or how or if you have to remove the plastic caps, etc. <br /> In-store education presents a one-on-one opportunity to market the recyclability of cartons <br /> along with perhaps promoting products sold in cartons through a cooperative effort to give <br /> out promotional items or discount coupons for items sold in cartons. <br /> b. Train three current recycling assistants in all aspects of carton recycling(rate $12.50/hour) <br /> training: two and a half hours x three=—$100 <br /> c. Conduct in-store outreach at four stores twice each four hours <br /> $12.50 x 4 x 4 x 2=$400 <br /> d. Install shelf talkers to promote carton recycling at POS: $100 8 hours labor outreach and <br /> installation(est.)if shelf talkers exist(more if they must be developed) 8 x$12.50=$100 <br /> F is there a shelf talker yet or will there be one?Whole Foods locally said they'll use <br /> them. <br /> e. Similar in-store for other stores in region: Food Lion,Harris Teeter, est. $300($100/event) <br /> £ Write up results(by recycling assistant)4 hours=$50 <br /> Subtotal: $850 <br /> 1. Advertising for carton promotions: <br /> a. Regional publication IndyWeek"Finder' their annual guide to the Triangle, $550. 25,000 <br /> copies printing in September, distributed Triangle-wide. <br /> b. Bus Poster on Chapel Hill Transit 80 posters $300 <br /> Subtotal: $1,275 <br /> 2. On campus promotions at UNC Chapel Hill <br /> a. Four promotional tabling or other events 3 hours/each two people: $100 <br /> b. Promotional items/giveaways $100 e.g.juice boxes,or t-shirts <br /> c. Simultaneous advertising in Daily Tar Heel(daily circulation 20,000) to promote carton <br /> recycling events and the act in general : using their`business builder special$350 for four <br /> ads @ 2"x 4" plus spot color$75/ad =$650 <br /> d.
