• 1 <br /> 18 <br /> socioeconomic, cultural needs of area older adults. The minimum <br /> programming should include: <br /> a. Meals/Nutrition (daily) <br /> b. Arts/crafts classes (daily) <br /> c. Educational classes (weekly) <br /> d. Recreation/fitness (weekly) <br /> e. Volunteer opportunities (daily) <br /> f. Information/referral,esp. public assistance (daily) <br /> h. Insurance/tax assistance (weekly) <br /> i. Health Promotion- blood pressure and classes (weekly) <br /> k. Drop-in lounge area (daily) <br /> F. Funding Design and Strategy. <br /> 1. The Orange County Advisory Board on Aging in cooperation with Dept. on <br /> Aging should be directed to develop a funding plan by December, 1996 for <br /> the facility expansion or improvement approved in the Senior Centers <br /> Development Plan. <br /> 2. The Hillsborough Senior Center and Satellite Outreach Senior Centers <br /> must be supported, in part, by a Friends organization or other supportive <br /> groups. This promotes a sense of community ownership, financial support <br /> as well as volunteering. <br /> 3. The two Multipurpose Senior Centers should be supported by a funding <br /> alliance with their respective towns (Chapel Hill and Hillsborough), the <br /> County and the Friends of each Center. <br /> 4. The Satellite Senior Outreach Programs also should be supported by a <br /> funding alliance with their respective community, the County; and the <br /> Friends organizations. <br /> 5. For the immediate future ( 1996-97), the County should investigate the <br /> purchase of the existing Chapel Hill Senior Center property and the adjoining <br /> space for adult day care and other multi-purpose activities. If unsuccessful, <br /> a search committee should be formed to identify available property/land in <br /> the east Chapel Hill business area where the highest concentration of <br /> older adults reside. (Appendix I - Past Developments at the Chapel Hill <br /> Senior Center) <br /> 6. In the immediate future (1996-97), the County should locate property <br /> (preferrably donated land) in the Hillsborough area for the construction of a <br /> free- standing Multipurpose Senior Center by the year 2000. <br /> Page 15 of 16 <br />
