1
ORANGE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
Action Agenda
Item No.
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: August 20, 1996
SUBJECT: TESTING SERVICES; JAIL/COURTHOUSE PROJECT
DEPARTMENT: PURCHASING AND Public Hearing: No
CENTRAL SERVICES Budget Amendment Reqd? No
ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT:
PAM JONES, ext. 2650
Agreement
Telephone Number-
Hillsborough 732-8181
Chapel Hill 967-9251
Mebane 227-2031
Durham 688-7331
PURPOSE: To consider approving an agreement with Trigon Engineering
Consultants, Inc. for testing to be done in association with the Jail/Courthouse
construction project.
BACKGROUND: This agreement will provide for testing services associated with the
aforementioned project for such things as suitable soil compaction for paving, suitability
of the foundation subgrades prior to placement of the concrete and actual testing of the
concrete after it has been placed to ensure it is as per specifications. Testing services
are typically the responsibility of the project Owner and to ensure, to the extent possible
that they are objective and free of bias, are performed by a contractor hired directly by
the Owner. A breakdown of the proposal submitted by Trigon is attached. This is an
anticipated expense of the project and has been included in the project budget.
RECOMMENDATION: The Manager recommends that the agreement with Trigon
Engineering Consultants, Inc. be approved in amount not-to-exceed $11,480; and
authorize the Purchasing Director to execute the appropriate paperwork.
