53
The Craig-3trayhorn-Blackwood Farm (OR 457) is one of the oldest
farmsteads in the area. The house was originally a log structure
dating to 1827, but it was expanded and completely remodeled as a
bungalow in the 1920s. Outbuildings on this 140-acre farm include
a board-and-batten smokehouse, milkhouse, frame privy, several
chicken houses, and a large barn. Traces of an old stagecoach
road are visible in the front yard.
The Duke Power Worker House (OR 1015) is a modest structure built
around 1910 as housing for workers at a new Duke Power station.
It was part of a 90-employee industrial complex upon the original
site of the Borland-McCauley Mill, which was located at the
confluence of Stoney Creek and the Eno River. The house is
unremarkable except for its slate roof, which may have been made
from slate found near the power plant. The structure exists in a
deteriorated condition.
The Mac House (OR 675) is a well-maintained, typical bungalow that
features exposed rafter ends and brackets under the eaves. It was
probably built in the mid-1930s.
House, Victorian, c. 1910 (OR 460) . This T-shaped Victorian house
features turned porch posts, gable returns, and an interior brick
chimney with a corbelled cap. The house features German siding.
The front porch has been screened.
3
