Hunt, Jr. has proclaimed the week of May 19 - 25, <br /> 1996, as Emergency Medical Services Week in North Carolina, in recognition of dedicated <br /> professionals that provide emergency services to the citizens of this state. The Emergency <br /> Medical Service in Orange County is a combination of Telecommumcators, First Responders, <br /> Law Enforcement Officers, Nu rma, Doctors, County Staff and Volunteers. The <br /> telecom>mmicator provides Emergency Medical Dispatch pre-arrival instructions to citizens <br /> who access the 9-1-1 Center. The First Responders and law enforcement officers usually <br /> arrive first on scene and provide basic life support as well as update the situation to the <br /> responding paramedic(s), through the telecommunicator. Emergency Medical Technicians, <br /> varying in level of skill and expertise from basic life support to the level of Paramedic, <br /> provide treatment and necessary emergency transport to the hospital emergency department <br /> The Orange Cowly Emergency Medical Services respond to approximately 9,500 calls per <br /> year, and provide treatment and transportation to a hospital emergency department for <br /> apgroximatelir 7,500 of time calls. Emergency Medical Services not only provides response, <br /> but also education for.the citizens and County staff in CPR and First Aid Courses. EMS also <br /> does community outreach programs far civic groups,public schools, day care facilities, and <br /> other community functions such as Hillsborough Hog Day. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: The Manager recommends,that the week of May 19 through 25, <br /> 1996, be proclaimed as Emergency Medical Services Week m Orange County, in recognition <br /> of the many dedicated men and women that daily serve the citizens of the Canty, in times of <br /> medical emergencies. <br />
