BACKGROUND: This week,May 12-18, is National Historic Preservation Week which spotlights historic preservation efforts on the local and national level. The Orange County Historic Preservation Commission since its formation in 1991 has reached several milestones in establishing a program of preserving the County's historic and archeological resources. The UPC has obtained grant funding to complete inventories of cultural resources,have a manuscript written so that Orange County's heritage may be published,and to produce the Historic Preservation Element of the Comprehensive Plan.In addition,two Orange County sites have been nominated to the National Register of Historic Places.The HPC is currently working to propose a local historic landmarks program. Pat Dickinson was appointed in 1991 as one of the original members of the Historic Preservation Commission and actively served two terms. Her knowledge and experience in historic preservation proved to be a valuable asset to the Commission in their work during the inaugural years. A copy of the resolution is attached. RECOMMENDATION: The Administration recommends adoption of the Resolution of Appreciation for Pat Dickinson.
