Hunt, Jr., Governor of North Carolina, has proclaimed the week <br /> of April 14 - 20, 1996, as National Public Safety Telecommunicators' Week, in North <br /> Carolina, in recognition of the telecommunicators that work m emergency dispatch centers <br /> serving the citizens of this state. Two national organizations also recognize and proclaim this <br /> week on behalf of telecommunicators nationwide. The organizations are Association of <br /> Public Safety Communications Officials and National Emergency Number Association. <br /> Telecommunicators in Orange County are active in both organizations, working toward <br /> enhancing the quality of service communications centers provide. <br /> Orange County's communications center provides 9-1-1 services to all citizens in the County, <br /> and dispatch the appropriate emergency services) and law enforcement, in time of need <br /> Orange County's tekcommunicators are among the highest trained in the State. The County's <br /> communications training program has been requested by 57 other centers and two other state <br /> associations. Telecommunicators provide a valuable service to the citizens and make Orange <br /> County a safer place to live. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: The Manager recommends that the Board adopt the proclamation <br /> designating the week of April 14 - 20, 1996 as National Public Safety Telecommunicators' <br /> Week, in Orange County. <br />
