Budget Ordinance Amendment#4 2 <br /> February 20, 1996 <br /> Page 2 <br /> Cooperative Extension <br /> Orange County's Cooperative Extension 4-H and Youth Program has received funds to provide summer <br /> enrichment camps to middle school youths. These camps will provide supervised safe, affordable, and <br /> enriching environments for at least 100 youths (ages 10 to 14) to build interpersonal skills and <br /> experience positive growth experiences. One site will be located in the Chapel Hill Carrboro City <br /> Schools and two sites will be located in the Orange County Schools system. Financial support ($60,000) <br /> for this upcoming summer(1996) will come from a grant from North Carolina State University. <br /> Participant fees collected this summer, anticipated to be $47,000, will be carried forward to offset 1997 <br /> program costs. Additional grants are also anticipated to offset 1997 program costs. The attached <br /> Middle School Enrichment Camp Grant Project Ordinance appropriates funds for the 1996 summer <br /> program. <br /> Recreation and Parks <br /> The Orange County Recreation and Parks Department has received a grass roots grant from the State. <br /> This grant, which totals $19,514, will enable the department to provide mini grants to art-related <br /> agencies and individuals throughout Orange County. (See block#4, page 3 of this amendment.) <br /> Orange Public Transportation (OPT) <br /> Orange County's Public Transportation program has received notification of a grant from the North <br /> Carolina Department of Transportation. Funds in the amount of$123,750 will be used to purchase <br /> vehicles and computer equipment. The County's required 10% match was approved in the fiscal year <br /> 1995-96 allocation to the Equipment and Vehicles Capital Project. The attached Equipment and <br /> Vehicles Capital Project Ordinance appropriates the anticipated grant. <br /> Orange County Public Library <br /> Additional State Aid has been awarded to the Orange County Public Library to purchase books. Block# <br /> 6 on page 3 of this amendment allocates the $12,486. <br /> Motor Pool Facility Capital Project Ordinance <br /> The Town of Hillsborough recently submitted their contribution to the County's new Motor Pool Facility's <br /> automated fueling station. The total cost of the fueling station is $247,121 with the Town's share of the <br /> cost being $43,540. This amendment budgets these funds from the Town in the Motor Pool Facility <br /> Capital Project. <br /> Recommendation <br /> The Manager recommends that the Board of County Commissioners adopt the proposed budget <br /> ordinance amendment, grant project ordinances, and capital project ordinances. <br /> 2 <br />
