2 <br /> Community representatives who have graduated from a ten week leadership development <br /> program called, "Community Voices,"have become involved in other community projects such as <br /> the Human Relations Council, Habitat for Humanity and the Family Resource Center in northern <br /> Orange. Secondly, the"Teens In Power" project has organized a summer youth camp at UNC, <br /> recreational and career development activities for youth in Efland. In Cedar Grove, successes <br /> included the implementation of the Family Resource Center and the reorganization of the <br /> Recreation Park Committee. <br /> Objectives for project year four will include: <br /> a. To improve the health status of minority communities by addressing <br /> community identified health issues of chronic disease and basic child <br /> health services. <br /> b. Enhance the capacity and potential of residents in community-based <br /> organizations by nurturing their leadership capacities in order to <br /> address their own issues and concerns. <br /> c. To institutionalize the CBPH concept and philosophy by strengthening <br /> the collaborative efforts of communities, universities, health agencies and <br /> other governmental organizations. <br /> d. Increase participation in and pursuit of health related careers by young <br /> people of color through introducing, encouraging and recruiting them to <br /> health related fields. <br /> The enclosed contract,in the amount of$44,820 will be supplemented with carryover from year <br /> three in the amount of$20,689 for a total of$65,509. This amount assures funding of the <br /> program through September 30, 1996, with no matching county funds required. Attached to the <br /> contract is a program plan which outlines, further, the goals and objectives of the project for year <br /> four. <br /> Recommendation: The Manager recommends that the contracts be approved and the Chair <br /> authorized to sign. He also recommends that an evaluation of the project <br /> be done using the objectives and strategies in Exhibit A to the contract as <br /> outcome measures. <br />
