The conclusions drawn forth involve three specific actions and <br /> they are: <br /> • Standardize recreation sections of land use ordinance across jurisdictions. <br /> • Employ joint siting, designing, and management of school and parks sites across <br /> jurisdictions. <br /> • Use public/private partnerships across jurisdictions. <br /> The major bulk of the context of this report provides documentation of the Recreation and <br /> Park Work Group's deliberations. The last section provides specific recommendations on the <br /> tasks assigned. Recommendations to be considered at this juncture include the following: <br /> • Set standards based on ranking with other Triangle Area counties. Determine <br /> type of park and recreation facilities to be surveyed. Develop mechanism for <br /> annual review of park and facilities standards by all jurisdictions. <br /> • Although the three jurisdictions use different formulae to define their recreation <br /> and park requirements within their Land Use Ordinances, the philosophy and <br /> intent of all are the same. It is recommended that the three Planning Departments <br /> consider developing a most preferred set of recreation requirements that could be <br /> included in all three jurisdictions' Land Use Ordinances. <br /> • It is recommended that all new school sites be planned to include park <br /> facilities and that existing school sites be improved with recreation and park <br /> amenities where it is mutually beneficial to the school system and <br /> governmental Jurisdiction(s) to do so. <br /> • Standardize all documents used by the three jurisdictions when contracting with <br /> private recreation providers. (Personnel,Facilities,Program Management) <br /> • That Orange County publish and update annually the listing of private recreation <br /> vendors and facilities on the new information referral network currently being <br /> developed in Orange County. Also, include models of existing, successful <br /> public/private partnerships, i.e. Triangle Sportsplex, Chapel Hill Senior Center, <br /> etc. <br /> • Establish a bi-annual meeting or forum for private and public recreation providers <br /> for information sharing and establishing new public/private initiatives. <br /> In addition, the Recreation and Park Work Group felt that it was important to add to the <br /> recommendation section a "Future Directions/Trends" listing that is inclusive of ideas <br /> Page 2 <br />
