• It is recommended that all new school sites be planned to include park facilities and that existing school sites be improved with recreation and park amenities where it is mutually beneficial to the school system and governmental jurisdiction(s) to do so. • Standardize all documents used by the three jurisdictions when contracting with private recreation providers. (Personnel, Facilities, Program Management) • That Orange County publish and update annually the listing of private recreation vendors and facilities on the new information referral network currently being developed in Orange County. Also, include models of existing, successful public/private partnerships, i.e. Triangle Sportsplex, Chapel Hill Senior Center, etc. • Establish a bi-annual meeting or forum for private and public recreation providers for information sharing and establishing new public/private initiatives. While these recommendations lay promising groundwork for long-range planning, other practical possibilities must be explored to achieve success. Time did not permit the development of the mechanisms (i.e., intergovernmental work groups, etc.) to pursue the thorough investigation of the following matters. The Work Group believes that it is imperative that they end their report by delineating these future concerns. Future Directions/Trends • Bond referenda for recreation and park projects • Comprehensive program planning to avoid duplication of services and service gaps • Joint ventures in the area of After-School programming • Status of swimming pools in Orange County • Mechanisms for funding facilities by all jurisdictions • Recreation and Parks District Tax • Funding equity issues (who pays for what, now and in the future?) • Joint School/Park use of the Greene Tract Page 13
