School systems should actively pursue partnering agreements with the towns and the County <br /> Parks and Recreation Departments, private developers, and businesses in an effort to maximize <br /> shared facilities. <br /> Other site considerations include: <br /> 1. Landscaping and buffers should be included in all school plans. <br /> 2. Athletic fields at the high school and middle school level should be equipped with <br /> irrigation systems. At a minimum, irrigation should be installed on the primary <br /> event field. Additionally, water should be available for plants and grass in the <br /> immediate vicinity of the buildings. <br /> 3. Covered walkways should be provided at the student drop-off areas, main <br /> entrances, and bus loading areas. <br /> 4. Adequate parking for staff and visitors should be provided. The following <br /> minimum recommendations are made regarding the size of parking facilities at <br /> new schools: <br /> Capacity Parking Spaces <br /> Elementary School 600 100 <br /> Middle School 700 120 <br /> Materials <br /> Construction materials should be selected based on low maintenance and high durability.
