12. Miscellaneous/Commons Basic School - 13,000 sq. ft. <br /> Tier 3 - Add 1,855 sq. ft. <br /> This area includes miscellaneous space such as additional storage, book storage and <br /> School Commons area. In addition, this area includes additional toilets which are <br /> required by the State Facility Standards but are calculated as part of the overall <br /> circulation multiplier which is applied to the total square footage (see next section). <br /> Workgroup NC Public School Facility <br /> Recommendation (Sq. Ft) Standards (Sq. Ft). <br /> Custodial Storage 500 500 <br /> Book Storage 800 800 <br /> Tier 3 includes a Commons area (1,000) and toilets which are calculated over and above <br /> the circulation factor of 33 percent. <br /> 13. Circulation <br /> A multiplier of 33 percent is included for space such as storage, mechanical rooms, <br /> hallways, toilets, walls, etc. The multiplier is applied to the total square footage of the <br /> Basic School plus each additional level. <br /> 14. Cost Per Square Foot <br /> For planning purposes, building costs are calculated based on $90 per square foot for <br /> construction. <br /> Middle School <br /> The total square footage of the Basic School, as outlined in this section of the report, is <br /> approximately 110,700 square feet. There are three tiers added to the Basic School. Tier 1 <br /> increases the staff support work space by 2,000 square feet plus 700 square feet for circulation, <br /> bringing the total for Tier 1 to 2,700 additional square feet. Tier 2 includes increased space for <br /> the afterschool programs, increasing the square footage by a total of 1,620 square feet. The <br /> remaining tier includes nearly 17,200 square feet of which a large portion is for special project <br /> rooms, additional commons space and additional teacher workspace. <br /> Page 11 <br />
