Other storage space for afterschool <br /> programs is included in the multi-purpose/physical education section of this report. <br /> Additional classroom storage is included in Tier 3. The total amount of additional storage <br /> space is 3,400 square feet. Small project rooms for grades 4 and 5 are also included in <br /> this tier, adding 400 square feet. <br /> B. Pre-School Area Basic School - 1,700 sq. ft. <br /> Classroom size for children ages three and four is recommended by the State to be 1,200 <br /> to 1,400 square feet. Draft standards developed by the Work Group includes 1,700 square <br /> feet for this area. <br /> C. Special/Exceptional Children Basic School-4,800 sq. ft. <br /> Speech/Language Tier 3 - Add 850 sq. ft. <br /> Programs for exceptional children vary greatly, depending on local factors. The State <br /> suggests a minimum of 100 square feet be provided for each student. <br /> The Workgroup is recommending the following space for the Basic School for <br /> special/exceptional speech/language education: <br /> Square Footage <br /> Academically Gifted Classroom 900 <br /> Speeclr/Language Rooms 500 <br /> Learning Disabilities Classroom 2 rooms at 500 sq ft. each <br /> PIA Classroom 1,200 <br /> BEH 1,200 <br /> Additional space included in Tier 3 includes: storage for the Learning/Disabilities <br /> classroom (200 square feet) and for the speech/language classrooms (100 square feet). <br /> Offices for the Speech/Languages teacher are included in this tier adding 300 square feet <br /> to the school.
