1 <br /> Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> Agenda Item Abstract <br /> Meeting Date: January 16, 1996 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item # X.a <br /> SUBJECT: Welfare/Human Services Reform Task Force <br /> Department: Social Services Board <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Planning Process Outline Marti Pryor-Cook,Eat.#2802 <br /> List of Suggested Task Force Members <br /> TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br /> Hillsborough - 732-8181 <br /> Durham - 688-7331 <br /> Mebane - 227-2031 <br /> Chapel Hill -967-9251/968-4501 <br /> Purpose: To identify and invite potential stakeholders to serve on a task force to make <br /> recommendations to the Orange County Board of Commissioners for implementing <br /> changes in public assistance and other human service programs. <br /> Background: Anticipated federal and state changes in the funding and administration <br /> of various human services programs will require comprehensive planning and priority <br /> setting by local governments and communities. Therefore, a task force will be convened <br /> for 90 days to make recommendations to Commissioners on the following issues: <br /> 1. Measurable county-wide outcome in human services. <br /> 2. Human Service priorities for the county and the acceptable minimum service levels <br /> (safety net) for children and facilities. <br /> 3. Inventory of current resources and gaps in resources as related to the minimum <br /> service levels for children and families. <br /> The task force will convene when the Federal budget and reform legislation are finalized, <br /> but no later than February 29, 1996. A trained facilitator will assist the task force to <br /> achieve its goals within the specified time frame. <br /> Recommendation: Approve the Welfare/Human Services Reform Planning Process as <br /> outlined in the attached documents. <br />
