8 <br /> 1996 CERTIFIED LOCAL GOVERNMENT (CLG) GRANT APPLICATION <br /> State Historic Preservation Office (HPO) <br /> Division of Archives and History <br /> North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources <br /> Deadline for Submission to CLG: December 31, 1995 <br /> Deadline for CLG Submission to HPO: January 31, 1996 <br /> INTRODUCTION <br /> Please use one or more of the attached application forms for proposed projects <br /> funded by 1996 Certified Local Government (CLG) grants. Different forms should <br /> be used for (1) Survey and Planning projects, and (2) Predevelopment and <br /> Development projects. Survey and planning activities include archaeological and <br /> architectural inventories, nominations to the National Register of Historic Places, <br /> and preparation of historic preservation plans; whereas predevelopment and <br /> development projects involve architectural/engineering studies, archaeological <br /> excavations (leading to site development), or the rehabilitation of structures listed <br /> in the National Register. Funds for predevelopment/development activities will be <br /> limited. Priority for available funding (estimated at $70,000) will be given to <br /> projects involving completion of the statewide architectural and archaeological <br /> surveys. <br /> In order to participate in the CLG program, CLG applications must be submitted by <br /> a local government authorized by the HPO. (See enclosed list). However, <br /> interested non-governmental entities, such as historical societies, may sponsor a <br /> project within the territorial jurisdiction of a CLG. Such applications should be <br /> delivered to the CLG (not sent directly to the HPO) by December 31, 1995. <br /> During January, 1996, the CLG commission will evaluate all potential projects and <br /> send copies to the HPO by the specified January 31, 1996 deadline. <br /> After review by the Historic Preservation Office, your proposed project(s) may be <br /> included in the 1996 Application for Federal Assistance to the National Park <br /> Service, U.S. Department of the Interior. If federal assistance becomes available, <br /> you may be asked to submit additional information. <br /> North Carolina's historic preservation program receives federal financial assistance <br /> for identification and preservation of historic properties. Under Title VI of the Civil <br /> Rights Act of 1964 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the U.S. <br /> Department of the Interior prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, <br /> creed, national origin, sex, religion, age, or handicap in its federally-assisted <br /> programs.
