Petitions by Board Members <br /> 6 Commissioner Pelissier asked staff to review the policy regarding the type of vehicles allowed at <br /> 7 Solid Waste Convenience Centers (SWCC). She said a citizen contacted her with questions about a <br /> 8 prohibited vehicle that weighs more than a ton, yet has dimensions similar to an SUV or van. She noted <br /> 9 that many of the restrictions and rules were put in place before such heavy vehicles were commonly used. <br /> 10 Commissioner McKee concurred with the need to evaluate these policies. <br /> 11 Chair Jacobs said Michael Talbert confirmed today that staff is going to do a report about this, as <br /> 12 well as other SWCC's issues. <br /> 13 Chair Jacobs asked about the Efland downtown plan. He thought the plan was to be brought back <br /> 14 in 6 months with an update from staff, and he questioned when the Board would see this again. <br /> 15 <br /> 16 4. Proclamation Recognizing UNC Women's Lacrosse 2013 NCAA Championship <br /> 19 The Board considered a proclamation recognizing the UNC Women's Lacrosse Team for winning <br /> 20 the 2013 NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse National Championship and authorized the Chair to sign. <br /> 21 Coach Levy gave brief history about lacrosse and the UNC Team. <br /> 22 Commissioner Dorosin read the proclamation: <br /> 23 <br /> 24 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 25 PROCLAMATION OF RECOGNITION ON <br /> 26 UNC WOMEN'S LACROSSE TEAM WINNING THE <br /> 27 2013 NCAA LACROSSE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP <br /> 28 <br /> 29 WHEREAS, on May 26, 2013, the University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team captured the NCAA <br /> 30 Division I Women's Lacrosse National Championship; and, <br /> 31 <br /> 32 WHEREAS, under the guidance of Head Coach Jenny Levy, the UNC women's lacrosse team earned its <br /> 33 first NCAA National Championship title; and, <br /> 34 <br /> 35 WHEREAS, the Tar Heels completed the season in the longest NCAA women's lacrosse championship <br /> 36 game in the history of the tournament, going into triple overtime; and, <br /> 37 <br /> 38 WHEREAS, the UNC women's lacrosse team finished the year with a 18-3 record; and, <br /> 39 <br /> 40 WHEREAS, Coach Levy continues to emphasize the importance of education for her college athletes when <br /> 41 the team, in the spring of 2012, posted the best academic semester in its recorded history with <br /> 42 a team GPA of 3.227; and, <br /> 43 <br /> 44 WHEREAS, through hard work, dedication, teamwork, and commitment, the Tar Heels have brought honor <br /> 45 upon themselves, the University of North Carolina, Orange County and the State of North <br /> 46 Carolina; <br /> 47 <br /> 48 NOW, THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Orange County Board of Commissioners expresses its <br /> 49 sincere appreciation and respect for the University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team, <br /> 50 for the Tar Heels' outstanding achievement, and for their inspiration to youth across the nation <br /> 51 through their dedication, teamwork, and athletic prowess. <br /> 52 <br /> 53 <br />
