15 <br />• Recognize and embrace the value of innovation as a critical means to improving services. <br />The driving vision for information technology (IT) within the County includes the development of an <br />enterprise -wide focus on IT, a focus on the customer and the use of IT as an enabler in efficient and <br />effective customer service. <br />Role and Responsibilities of IT Department <br />The guiding mission of the Information Technology Department, in support of Orange County, is to <br />provide strategic oversight of information technology in order to provide better and more cost <br />effective services to the public while providing stewardship of the County's digital information assets. <br />In support of BOCC priorities, Information Technology works with the County Manager and <br />departmental staff to ensure technology is deployed in a cost - effective manner, while focusing on <br />improving efficiency, collaboration, reduction in error rates, statutory compliance, and increasing <br />levels of customer service and services to the public. This plan links the IT Department's goals and <br />objectives to the goals and objectives of the governmental enterprise, as well as to individual <br />departments, in order to meet citizen needs using flexible, productive, and innovative approaches. <br />Furthermore, the County IT Department, along with other County departments, is responsible for <br />creating a quality- focused, highly productive, responsive organization, which meets and exceeds <br />customer requirements through continuous improvement of products and services. The goal of the <br />department is to support the business units within the County through the strategic use of <br />technology, in a manner consistent with service - aligned IT. In addition, enhanced efficiency, <br />effectiveness, and service delivery are critical to the Department and the organization at large. <br />The IT Department is a service organization which operates <br />solely to meet the needs of County employees, residents, <br />visitors, and businesses. The projects undertaken by the IT <br />Department are driven by organizational and departmental <br />needs and opportunities. <br />13 <br />
