1 <br />ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: October 8, 2013 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. 5 <br />SUBJECT: Orange County Strategic Information Technology Plan Update <br />DEPARTMENT: Information Technologies PUBLIC HEARING: (Y /N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Orange County Strategic Information Jim Northrup, 919 - 245 -2276 <br />Technology Plan <br />PURPOSE: To receive an update outlining the status of strategic IT initiatives as defined by the <br />2012 Orange County Strategic Information Technology Plan. <br />BACKGROUND: In November 2012 the Orange County Board of Commissioners approved the <br />Orange County Strategic Information Technology Plan. This Plan offered a frank assessment of <br />internal and external service offerings. Along with identifying many areas where the Information <br />Technologies Department excelled, the Plan identified goals and methodologies for both <br />increasing and improving service offerings such as the County Website, Central Permitting, <br />paperless initiatives, and mobile applications. <br />Staff will provide an update at the meeting. Discussion points will include, but will not be limited <br />to the following items addressed in the Orange County Strategic Information Technology Plan: <br />• Website redevelopment <br />• Central Permitting <br />• IT Staffing Levels <br />• Mobile Applications <br />• Social Media <br />• Paperless Records Management <br />• IT Project Prioritization and the Information Technologies Governance Council <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with receiving the status update. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Interim Manager recommends that the Board receive the <br />update, discuss the items presented as necessary and provide direction and feedback to staff. <br />
