2 <br /> Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools. Recently, the school system requested funding for several more <br /> projects. The scope of work for these projects is relatively small. As shown in the chart below, requested <br /> funding falls within the amounts included in the CIP and the attached capital project ordinances provide <br /> for the funding outlined below: <br /> Capital Project 1999-00 CIP 1999-00 Funding Source <br /> Appropriation (as Request from <br /> included in the CHCCS <br /> approved 1999-09 <br /> CIP) <br /> Americans Disabilities Act(ADA) <br /> Requirements—bring facilities into <br /> compliance with the Americans with <br /> Disabilities Act including retrofitting $25,000 $25,000 %cent sales tax <br /> doors, renovating bathrooms, <br /> modifying parking lots, and installing <br /> elevators <br /> Energy Efficiency Improvements— <br /> install new energy efficient light <br /> fixtures to enable the district to realize $125,000 $125,000 %cent sales tax ; <br /> utility savings <br /> Mobile Classrooms—purchase two <br /> middle school mobile classrooms to <br /> help with overcrowding until Smith $125,000 $125,000 %cent sales tax <br /> Middle School opens in 2001-02 <br /> Planning for Future Projects— <br /> provides for preliminary planning for <br /> major projects such as Culbreth <br /> Middle School auditorium $50,000 $50,000 Savings from Scroggs <br /> improvements, Transportation Center Elementary School <br /> expansion, and Carrboro Elementary Capital Project <br /> major renovations <br /> Roofing Projects—repair and Savings from East <br /> replace roofs throughout the District $230,000 $230,000 Chapel Hill High School <br /> Addition Capital Project <br /> Chapel Hill High School Cultural <br /> Arts Center—purchase equipment $40,000 $40,000 '/cent sales tax <br /> Chapel Hill High School Door <br /> Replacement—replace exterior $75,000 $75,000 Y2 cent sales tax <br /> doors and frames in the main building <br /> Athletic Facilities—improve athletic Y2 cent sales tax <br /> facilities at Chapel Hill High School ($715,000) and savings <br /> including bleachers, press box, $785,000 $785,000 from Scroggs Elementary <br /> stadium bathrooms, concession School Capital Project <br /> stand, ticket booths and sound system ($70,000) <br /> During prior CIP discussions with the Board, CHCCS staff has discussed redirecting savings from both <br /> the Scroggs Elementary School capital project and the East Chapel Hill High School capital project to <br /> other current projects. The attached ordinances reduce the budget for these two projects by$120,000 <br /> and $230,000 respectively. <br />
