5 CX_ <br /> / 99 `1 '7 <br /> RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR FLOOD <br /> RELIEF TO EDGECOMBE COUNTY . <br /> WHEREAS, the citizens of Edgecombe County suffered great loss of life, <br /> dwellings and the resources for normal existence, as well as unmeasurable damage to <br /> their communities and sense of well-being, due to the flooding from Hurricane Floyd; and <br /> WHEREAS, full recovery will be a long and arduous process; and <br /> WHEREAS, the citizens of Orange County, the Board of County Commissioners, <br /> and County staff empathize with the challenges faced by our neighbors in Edgecombe <br /> County; and <br /> WHEREAS, Orange County citizens remain grateful for the assistance afforded <br /> them by others in the wake of the disaster that befell our county in 1996 due to Hurricane <br /> Fran; and <br /> WHEREAS, all in Orange County wish to assist our neighbors in eastern North <br /> Carolina in the recovery from Hurricane Floyd. <br /> THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> hereby directs the County Manager and staff to coordinate proactive relief efforts with <br /> the Town Managers of Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Hillsborough, and respond to requests <br /> by Edgecombe County for equipment, staff and other support that may be provided for <br /> the duration of the recovery period. <br /> Alice M.
