ATTACHMENT 3 <br /> HVAC MECHANIC <br /> GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: <br /> Performs difficult technical work in the maintenance,repair and installation of heating and air <br /> conditioning equipment; does related work as required. <br /> Work is performed under general supervision. Serve as lead worker on HVAC projects with other <br /> skilled and semi-skilled employees. <br /> TYPICAL TASKS: <br /> Establishes and maintains a preventive maintenance schedule for air conditioning,ventilating and <br /> heating equipment; <br /> Makes daily and routine inspections of equipment; <br /> Identifies quantities and types of parts and supplies needed for inventory and identifies vendors from <br /> which to acquire parts and supplies; <br /> Troubleshoots control systems that operate HVAC equipment; <br /> Analyzes building heating and cooling systems and recommends modifications to achieve better energy <br /> efficiency; <br /> Makes diagnoses to determine reasons for heating and air conditioning system malfunctions; <br /> Maintains and repairs gas boilers,heaters, centrifugal chillers, split systems, including all allied <br /> equipment supporting HVAC systems; <br /> Repairs or replaces motors,controls,compressors,hot water heaters,tanks,water pumps and circulating <br /> units; <br /> Plans and installs HVAC equipment; <br /> Trains other mechanics in a variety of assignments as required; <br /> Performs related tasks as required. <br /> KNOWLEDGES. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: <br /> Thorough knowledge of the practices,methods,materials and equipment used in the maintenance and <br /> repair of air conditioning,refrigeration,heating and ventilation equipment;thorough knowledge of the <br /> design and operation of centrifugal and reciprocal compressors; ability to diagnose equipment <br /> malfunctions and prescribe repair procedures; ability to analyze building heating and air conditioning <br /> equipment and recommend modifications to achieve better operation or energy savings. <br /> EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: <br /> Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and at least 3 <br /> years experience in maintenance and repair of commercial heating and air conditioning equipment.. <br /> SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: <br /> Certification as licensed HVAC Mechanic Class H-3 Heating and Air Conditioning and CFC <br /> certification within the State of North Carolina or ability to obtain such certification within one year of <br /> appointment. <br /> fApcn\1ana\c1assifyWvad7.wpd <br />
