519/13 Soul Street Dance brings Brealan'Baclowds to The ArtsCenter I Apr 17 I Triangle Arts and Entertainment <br /> In addition to their public performance, Soul Street Dance will perform in over a dozen area <br /> schools and lead workshops in two local after-school programs during their visit, reaching over <br /> 6,500 area youth.Through their educational activities, the group will teach about the history of <br /> hip-hop and emphasize the importance of making good choices. Comprised of male dancers <br /> formerly considered at-risk, the members of Soul Street convey important lessons on character <br /> education, and they share with the students how they found their focus through dance. The <br /> company's eight-day residency is funded, in part, by a grant from South Arts in partnership <br /> with the National Endowment for the Arts and the North Carolina Arts Council. <br /> Breakin'Backwards, the group's public performance at The ArtsCenter on April 17, will take <br /> the audience on a trip through the decades and will showcase choreography not seen in the <br /> group's school shows.
