SAMPLE PRESS OCAC 2013 <br /> affiliated with the teams who participate in the Slam. Many judges will be pre-selected, and some will <br /> come from the audience. We will shoot for diversity in the judging panel. <br /> • Team bouts will be drawn randomly. Each bout will consist of four or five competing teams. <br /> • Be respectful of yourself, the youth writing community and the group you represent. <br /> • Have fun in this process. If you don't get high scores, so what. It says nothing about your abilities <br /> and potential as a writer, thinker, and cultural leader. <br /> Festival Schedule <br /> This year, Word Rivalry will include free poetry workshops lead by nationally-renowned spoken <br /> word poets Rudy Francisco, Desiree Dallagiacomo, and George "G"Yamazawa who will also be our <br /> guest performers at the competition finals. All participating youth from each team should bring a <br /> notebook and writing utensil to the festival in order to take part in the workshops. <br /> 12:30- 1:00 Teams Arrive at UNC Campus in the Cobb Parking Deck, Welcome and <br /> Orientation. Snacks distributed. <br /> 1:00- 2:30 Workshop Sessions <br /> 2:30- 4:30 Preliminary bouts <br /> 4:30 - 5:30 Dinner (provided) <br /> 5:30—6:00 Fellowship time and team meetings. During this time teams will be encouraged to <br /> mingle and get to know each other. This will also be time for finalist teams to regroup <br /> and prepare for the finals. <br /> 6:00 - 8:00 Finals (Including Showcase from guest poets) <br /> *The Finals are FREE and open to the public, so come out and support these incredible young <br /> voices! <br />
